متن کاملGravity-driven enhancement of heavy particle clustering in turbulent flow.
Heavy particles suspended in a turbulent flow settle faster than in a still fluid. This effect stems from a preferential sampling of the regions where the fluid flows downward and is quantified here as a function of the level of turbulence, of particle inertia, and of the ratio between gravity and turbulent accelerations. By using analytical methods and detailed, state-of-the-art numerical simu...
متن کاملTurbulent conductivity measurements in a spherical liquid sodium flow.
We report the first measurement of a reduction in the conductivity of liquid sodium due to turbulence in a spherical flow (the beta effect). The sodium is contained in a 0.15 m diameter sphere, typical flow speeds are about 1 m/s, and magnetic Reynold's numbers range from 1 to 8. We find a reduction from the molecular value of the conductivity of about 4%. Results are in rough agreement with si...
متن کاملTurbulent Flow over Cars
In this paper the flow behaviour over a number of car bodies is studied. For this purpose the unsteady 2-D incompressible Navier-Stokes equations have been applied. After averaging and nondimensionalizing the equations, the system of equations has been transformed from the Cartesian (x-y) coordinates to a body fitted generalized (-) coordinate. As the flow is incompressible, the density in the ...
متن کاملSingle Jet Mixing at Arbitrary Angle in Turbulent Tube Flow
An asymptotic procedure is presented to evaluate the tracer trajectory in a two-stream turbulent pipe mixing unit with an oblique branch. The proposed mixing jet trajectory estimate is compared with the existing experimental data and used to calculate the critical mixing conngurations. In addition, it is shown that the well-known tracer jet proole can be recovered for the case of a normally iss...
